Results and Accomplishments
The National Park Service, the State of Florida, and the city of Jacksonville signed an agreement establishing a cooperative management zone across the entire conservation landscape. The three parties agreed to collaboratively manage across their respective jurisdictions to enhance overall conservation and recreation management, to share staff and physical resources, and to co-manage visitor centers to provide seamless service, including conservation education to the visiting public. Through the partnership, land acquisition funds were leveraged among the various agencies to purchase lands for preservation and recreation. The partners prioritized purchases, which helped prevent agencies from working at cross purposes by trying to buy the same parcel of land. The group recently began a new partnership with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection-Coastal and Aquatic Managed Areas Division for long term water quality sampling. The Nature Conservancy has helped inventory and jointly manage 100 islands.
